A "Negative Charter"

Atop the Stoa this day I again wish to discuss what words mean and the dangers of an uneducated electorate.

President Obama has complained over and over and over again that the Constitution of the United States is a "Negative Charter" that says what the Federal Government can not do TO you, but it is silent on what the Federal Government can do FOR you.

For a "Constitutional Scholar", and I use those words in their loosest forms, he sure does not understand the document or its writers very well.

Obama and the Congress have passed into law several pieces of legislation that should not have EVER made it outside of casual conversation over drinks. One was the Patient Affordability Act (ha, ha, it is to laugh). The second was a bill passed in November 2011 that allows the Federal Government to detain an American citizen on American soil without charges or trial.

The Framers made assumptions that EVERYONE would always understand some of the basic underpinnings of the Constitution. Namely the concept that ALL RIGHTS ARE GOD-GIVEN. The right to Free Speech is not specifically stated in the 1st Amendment. It was assumed that everyone would know that we have the right to speak our minds. The Amendment states that the Government can not control what we think via State Controlled Religion or other devices.

People must understand and remember that the United States is UNIQUE in the concept that power flows UPWARDS in our government. NOT down. ABSOLUTE power resides with the People, who give a little bit of it up to their State governments, who then in turn give up a little to the Federal Government. The idea that the Federal Government can dictate what it does today to the States and the People would have our Framers SCRAMBLING over each other for the "RESET" button.

The 10th Amendment makes that painfully clear to anyone in the Federal Government. Put simply, powers not SPECIFICALLY granted to the Federal Government under this document RESIDE with the States or the People therein. It is the People who elect their State governments, who in turn send their representatives up to the Federal Government. Those Representatives can ONLY pass legislation that does not interfere with State Constitutions or the Federal Constitution.

The first members of the Supreme Court were BOOOORRRREEED. And I mean out of their skulls BORED. The generation that wrote the Constitution understood, via the Federalist Papers, what the rules of the new game were. Legislators, for the most part, were citizens who served a term or two and then went back to their farms. There were very few to no political dynasties or people who openly tried to defy the intent of the Constitution.

It was only later, as the Framers began to die off that those moldy justices began to get some use. It was those folks who began to allow the Constitution to be nibbled at around the edges. A little here, a little there. Little by little the Federal Government began to encroach upon the States and the People, just as the Framers knew it would. The Progressive Movement was born about a century after the signing of the Constitution. The Progressives felt that the Constitution was not sufficient to run a nation as large and as complex as what the Unites States had grown into...and the people were simply too uneducated to change things themselves. There were many, many times that the Supreme Court saved our Republic by swatting the hands of would-be corruptors.

However, there have been more than a few blockbuster cases that began to truly erode our rights and liberties. You can figure out what those were for yourself.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely. The Constitution, that flimsy little piece of paper protects us ONLY when there are people around who understand what it is all about. Unfortunately, the Federal Government took over the Education system and began to kill it in the 1970's. Then they took over the University system via the back door with grants and loans, eventually taking over the Student Loan Programs (the 00's). Now our Universities are dying too.

Those two bills will eventually be challenged, and they darn well better get challenged. They should never have been passed in the first place. Shame on the Republican House for not killing them. Shame on the Democrat Senate for not killing them. Shame on Obama for signing them. The Supreme Court had better get that call right as well.

The Constitution IS a document of negative rights. It is a shield against the corrupting power and encroachment of Local and State rights by the Federal Government. That is what it has ALWAYS been about.

President Obama may have known that if he had grown up in America. The American people may have known that if they had received a proper education in our schools.

Wake up folks and read the darn Constitution. It is under 100,000 words. You can get through it over a long lunch. Do it sometime. You might be shocked if you keep an open mind at what has been allowed to happen to our nation by a sleeping people drunk on pop culture.

Live well.

The Perception of Nations

Upon the Stoa this day, I would like to give a shout out to the Japanese anime series known as Hetalia.

This series is very good at teaching children the basics of history in a way that they can easily break down and grasp. Nations are represented as people, and conflict as social interactions. Nations that "date" are forming alliances. Those that get married tend to be on the losing side of a war (hey, I didn't write that series, so send your complaints elsewhere).

I love the way they portray America around the 1940's. Boisterous, fun, a bit empty-headed; but with a big heart. One scene that I like shows the person who represents Britain working out hard in the woods, trying to get into shape since he has developed an inferiority complex as it relates to America. The work out is lame. I mean, really lame.

China watches on quietly while he finishes up. He is proud of himself and proudly states that no one will make fun of him anymore.

Then, from the woods, comes this, "Hey, Britaaaaiin,". Here America comes, dragging a 1930's touring car by its bumper. He tells him that he wanted to borrow the keys to drive it.

Britain then lies quietly on the couch eating scones.

It shows things as they are, for the most part. America is oblivious to what the rest of the world thinks and just sort of rumbles his way around trying to perform good deeds.

The other night, though, I was doing what I like to do best. Ponder.

The thought came to me to look through the eyes of Hetalia at the world of 2012 and see how the characters should be represented. I'm sure my daughter will be unhappy with me, but I calls them as I sees them.

Imagine a big home. Perhaps even a McMansion. The garage is stuffed to the rafters with junk while 5 expensive cars are parked out in the driveway. This is America's home.

Across the street is a Cul-de-sac of homes. They were once beautiful and historical, but now have over grown weeds, engine blocks hanging from trees, and a party in the back yards that sounds like a huge argument. All of the houses have "Foreclosed" signs on them and creditors standing around in the front yard arguing about who is going to get paid first. This is both the European Union and Britain.

Britain has grown tired of the arguing and is hanging out in America's living room.

Now, here is America. He is one of those graying high school football stars who used to be powerfully built. In fact, he is still very strong and active, though he is carrying a lot of excess weight. He sits in his lounger watching TV with a big, greasy hamburger clutched in his fist. Empty beer bottles lie scattered around him.

Sitting next to him is a fat, balding, gray man wearing nothing but a too small "wife beater" t-shirt and boxer shorts made out of the Union Jack. His baggy black socks are held up by those old suspender-thingys.

In the kitchen, oblivious to the mess in the living room, is Canada. She keeps herself in shape, has been on and off again employed. Currently, she is employed and doing very well. She only makes about 1/250th what America makes, but she has been experiencing good times while the financial planner for America keeps telling him things are getting better.

The financial planner for America changes ever 2, 4, 6 or 8 years, depending on his mood. Ever since the 1960's, America has been less and less responsible with his money. He has only had the best of intentions for himself and the world. Really.

When other countries needed a loan, he was there for them. When their houses burned, he helped. When they did away with their armies, he stepped in and guaranteed protection for them. When his people wanted free money after retirement and free healthcare, he though, "what the heck, goodies for everyone."

His various financial planners always just went along with whatever he wanted.

The latests, this tall, chain-smoking black man who, every time he looked at him, could barely contain his distain for him. This guy kept telling him that everything was great, now sign this paper to put 5 mortgages on your house. Don't worry about a thing, now sign this paper that places your children and grandchildren into indentured servitude. By the way, he also wanted a raise and 270 days of paid vacation. Just sign here. Yep, that kind of financial planner.

Now, America was broke. He owed far more than he could ever pay back. Britain just harumphed and threw a pork rind at the TV.

America didn't want to stop being the cool guy in the neighborhood, but he had to keep borrowing money. He wanted the newest cars and best TVs, but the stupid credit card companies were charging him too much interest.

Didn't they know he was good for it? He was AMERICA!

Britain just pulled down another beer and changed the channel.

Canada tried to help America with a business deal that would have run a huge pipeline through the back yard, moving oil from Canada into the refineries of Texas, but the angry, skinny black guy kept telling her, "NO". She let out her breath and instead signed a deal with Japan to ship her oil there.

No, America sat back in his chair and felt vaguely uncomfortable.

Britain put a greasy hand on his arm, "Here, now, its not so bad. I was once a great Empire. Everywhere the sun fell on this planet there was a British flag. Now I argue with Argentina over a spit of islands near the South Pole. You'll get used to it. Just sit back and enjoy the good food and the TV."

There was that, he thought, only who was going to pay for the food and the TV. Britain had been sponging off of him for years. There was no one left for America to sponge off.

America opened his mouth to ask a question about his expenses. The angry man in the corner just waved a finger at him, telling him to just let him manage his money.

So, America sat back in his chair.

The darkness outside was lit up as houses in the Cul-de-sac began to burn. Shouts about money and promises, and government spending filled the crisp night air.

America's finances looked like the EU finances 10 years ago. He was catching up to them fast. Now, Europe seemed to be burning itself down and looking back across the street at America's McMansion. He didn't like the look of that.

The shade slowly came down over the window. Cigarette smoke wafted in as the skinny black man secured the shades. "There now, nothing going on out there. You just sit back and watch TV. I've got things under control here. You just keep signing over the checks and I'll keep things running as smoothly as they've ever run.

With a last look at the pulled shade, America leaned back into his chair, confusion creasing his face. There was something bad going on but he couldn't quite figure out what it was. His financial advisor said that everything was fine. Life was good and there was no reason why it couldn't stay good.

The black man seemed to have a sneer on his lips as he turned away and headed for his desk in the corner.

Canada had two buckets in her hands and ran out the back door to go help the EU.

The black man quietly went into the kitchen and quietly clicked the door lock. Just as quietly, he went back to his desk and sat down.

That is how I would expect to see things if Hetalia was doing an updated version of America in 2012. I wonder what this would like like in 2022?

Live well.

I don't like the sounds of this!

Today upon the Stoa will once again discuss the concept that words mean things. Lets say this again. Words. Mean. Things.

I started to get that cold "ants down my back" feeling when I heard a left-leaning ISP (Internet Service Provider) tell me on one of its "General Information" pages that the concept of government run health care: 1) nothing new, just look at the VA system, Medicare and Medicaid, 2) the new bill simply extends that same, PRECEDENT setting concept to its logical conclusion.

Logical Conclusion. Hmmmm. So all that other stuff was just a "thin wedge" to get us to this point. Interesting.

It also went on to trot out all the people who have been paying the taxes for Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid and for them to demand something for all that they have paid into over the years.

Words mean things and Liberals sure know it. They have been successful over the last century in "Framing" the argument. They prepare the ground on which the battle will take place, like any good military commander. They send up trial balloon arguments and then see how the right will debate the issues. The Liberals then go about warping the meaning of the words and the issues until they have maneuvered the Right onto the ground they have prepared. Then the battle begins.

A battle that the Right always seems to lose. We argue according to their premiss, argue based upon THEIR definitions of words. We don't think to argue those things, which is why we lose.

The ignorance (and willing participation of those on the dole) of the American people allow this kind of argumentative suicide to take place.

Let us lance a few of the festering boils that the left is creating with the argument that ObamaCare is simply and extension of ALREADY EXISTING PRESIDENTIAL AND LEGISLATIVE PRECEDENCE.

Social Security is not, technically, an entitlement. It is a retirement plan that the government collects taxes on with the understanding that when you are old enough, or debilitated enough, that those benefits will be paid out to you. Over the years, Social Security Insurance (SSI) has been warped to suit election year politics. There is no limit to how much SSI will pay out to a beneficiary, nor is it something that you ever had to work for. The tax that we all pay, for our "own" future, was spent decades ago and will never be replaced. Can we say, "Government Theft"?

SSI is a tax with a benefit. So, let's think of it that way, even if it is a giant Ponzi scheme.

Next, Medicare/Medicaid. One is a Federal program and the other is a program administered by the States. Everyone pays a tax on income to pay for these programs. If you have no income, you pay no taxes. I may never use either of those programs, but as a "people" we decided, long before I was born, that this was a burden that we would all accept in order to help those who needed it. We are a compassionate nation after all are we not?

So, I'm not forced to accept SSI, though I pay a tax. I'm not forced to accept Medicare/Medicaid, though I pay a tax.

So, I'm NOT seeing the "logical extension" of ObamaCare from these roots. First, ObamaCare demands that ALL citizens purchase a product, or pay a penalty. This is not taxation. These are fines and fees. What if they mandate the purchase of Broccoli, or healthy beverages. If they can mandate I purchase healthcare for "the common good", then what is to keep Michelle Obama from forcing us to eat healthy food?

A majority of Americans are AGAINST ObamaCare, so there is no broad, popular mandate for its creation, like there was for SSI and Medicare. Since Medicaid is a program run and administered by the States, the Federal government is Constitutionally unable to order them to do anything related to Medicaid.

Do you see what happened there? With only a little nudging, the Main Stream Media (MSM) has completely removed what a monumental shift this is for us, as a culture, as a people, and as a nation governed by the foundation of the Constitution.

Come on, people, it is just an extension of something we've already done. Look at the taxes you pay, without ever getting a benefit from, for Medicare and Medicaid. Look at your paycheck and see what gets taken out for SSI. You could be hit by a bus tomorrow and never enjoy that retirement money.

My grandmother never earned a paycheck in her life, yet she has been collecting a bounty of benefits since 1979. As a people we decided to repay that generation for all that they endured and all that the had done for the nation. Today, entitlement spending is nearly 75% of the overall budget. Those promises can not be kept for the decedents of the GI generation. It simply can not.

The people in the article were saying that what the Supreme Court was ruling on was "merely semantics".

People, semantics is important. It is vital, especially in legal matters and doubly so in legislation that will crush this nation and its people.

Here is a good example of how important "semantics" is. My wife was born with the name Bea'ta. In English, her her name sounds like "Be-Ate-A". In her language, the name sounds like "Bae-ah-tah". Huge difference. After a week of trying to say her name right, she told me to go back to calling her Bay (bae), which was what I started to call her when I first met her.

So what is the big deal? Well, because of the concept of "Semantics", one pronunciation is her name. The other is not. Simple.

And in the above article? One is Constitutional, the other is not. Just that simple.

The Left loves to prepare the battleground for a debate. They are good at it. The dumbing down of the American public aids in their attempts to win arguments in this fashion...and it works.

Don't just absorb the tripe that they feed us. Think about what you hear and form your own opinion. You have a wonderfully complex mind that is capable of creating operas and planning missions to other planets. Don't just fill it with pop culture and "mental Fast Food". Exercise that brain from time to time and it will serve you well.

Live well.

The Stark Reality

From the Stoa this day, I will tell the story of DeRoy and The Moderator as the ancient Greeks like to tell their stories. They took the real world and assigned other names and faces to the characters.

You see, reality is way stranger than anything anyone can make up. The arguments are real. The bloodshed is comedy...for now.

It was a warm day in San Francisco. The rallies in support of the Obama Healthcare plan were large and boisterous. Next to it was the OWS movement, camping out in another park ordering pizza. There was an Arab rally against Israel, an Arab rally promoting Sharia Law, and another Arab rally that called for the destruction of the United States. Such peace loving people.

This was Liberal central. If he could not get an articulated person in this motley crowd he would be genuinely surprised.

He and his cameraman, Randal were walking around, taking in all the First Amendment sights they could.

He had been looking for hours to find a person that he could talk to that was not either foaming at the mouth, raging about something, or, so high they couldn't remember their names. The rallies were loud and they were messy. The areas were torn to bits, the Porta-potties were tipped over and people just relieved themselves wherever they felt.

Finally, he found an area set to the side of the ObamaCare rally that was shaded. The Golden Gate Bridge seemed to frame the scene. Several well-dressed people sat there, sipping chilled drinks from glasses with a pitcher in the middle.

These folks looked like they didn't belong. He and Randal walked over and introduced themselves to one of them men.

"Good afternoon, Gentlemen. I'm the Moderator from the..."

"We know who you are. Have a seat and relax in the shade for a while." The man smiled disarmingly.

The Moderator looked the man over, to take his measure. He was not a big man, nor was there anything distinguishing about him. He did have an air of confidence around him, sort of like a grounded feeling of surety.

Two chairs appeared next to him, so suddenly that he didn't even notice someone putting them there.

"Please, sit. We can talk about whatever you want. Your cameraman, here, can record the whole thing if you like."

The man wore a white, casual business suit. His friends wore less formal, though casual business attire. There was something about this group that set off his Journalistic bells. There were stories and stories within this group and he was being invited to sit down.

"We've watched your traveling episodes. Most entertaining, Mr. Kebert."

The Moderator was caught off guard for a moment. He had gone by a stage name for decades and had been called "Moderator" since his show's inception nearly 20 years ago. No one outside of the legal team at his network knew his true last name.

"Come, Mr. Kebert, you are among the intellectual elite of this little planet. We can dispense with the pleasantries and simply talk as citizens of the world, here."

Randal was recording the event and keeping quiet, just like the Moderator had told him to. The shock collar around his neck ensured this; the button to the collar on the Moderator's keychain.

"How do you like our little display, here?" The man said as he sipped on a drink. A chilled drink appeared on the table in front of the Moderator as well.

"Display, you mean demonstration or protest rally, right?" The Moderator said as he sipped on his drink, which turned out to be water.

"It is a display, kind of like the manger scenes for Christmas. My collegues and I simply stir in the right elements, dash a few catch phrases, pinch the right amount of emotional energy and BAM, we have a protest rally," the man said this with growing enthusiasm.

"I'm sorry, sir, but you have me at a disadvantage. You know a lot about me and I know nothing about you," the Moderator said.

"We are everyone...and no one," he said cryptically.

"Though your statement is an answer to a question, it is not the answer to my question," the Moderator stated.

"We are the ones that make the trains run on time, or not on time. We are the ones who decide that Americans like cold beer, and not British beer. We are the ones that decided that the American breakfast would be eggs and bacon. We decide how long the skirt sizes will be in the spring and whether the Cubs will ever win a pennant."

The Moderator pulled on his glass of water and thought for a few moments.

"You mean to tell me that you are part of an international organization that rigs elections and kills people like JFK when they don't do as their are told?"

The man in white chuckled for several seconds and he thought about the Moderator's words.

"Nothing so dramatic, Mr. Kebert. I guess you could call us a group of very patient social engineers. We are the enlightened ones in a world of sheep. We guide mankind to its potential. There are those that feel that they know better and ignore us. They may ignore us once or twice, but never three times. Ronald Reagan figured that out, eventually."

The Moderator looked back at him for a moment. The rally had faded to quiet in his mind, focused as he was on the group in front of him. The other men in the group seemed bored by the conversation.

"You don't control Presidents any more than you controlled the assassins of JFK," the Moderator said in an attempt to draw more information out from the man.

"You are right, we didn't control a team of assassins that killed JFK. It was Oswald and he did act alone. We had plans for JFK and that idiot messed it up. Luckily for LBJ, he understood right away who and what we were."

"You don't pick Presidents, the people do through the Electoral College. You can not possibly influence who the people pick," the Moderator said.

"We don't pick the Presidents, though we decide who will run and who will not run. When both candidates have been chosen by us, then the people will pick someone of our choosing. In the same vein, if you can influence the people, they will pick who we want. We have done this for over 100 years. We know how to make things happen."

"Are you part of the Fabian Society?" the Moderator asked.

"The British, as usual, come up with good ideas but then lose them when it comes to implementing them. Too hung up on class and all that. We shed them back in the 19th century and charted the true course of Progressivism in the world."

"You guys are that shadowy group of people that declared that violent revolution was messy and uncontrollable and that change could be made in progressive increments, right?"

"You are right to a degree. Think of it as a stealth revolution. We have spent decades framing the rules, setting the rules of the debate and the content of the messages since Theodore Roosevelt. We have been quietly shaping American Culture since then. We are a patient people. Willing to wait several lifetimes to make the changes that we feel the world needs to have made."

"How can a group of people, such as yourself, influence all that."

"Mr. Kebert, I can tell you who will win "Dancing with the Stars" this year. I can tell you who will be voted off the island next week. I can even tell you what the number one song will be in the nation a month from now."

"I can't believe it, sir. No small group can do this. There must be an army of you spread around the world," the Moderator pointed out to him.

"There are more, but not many. We influence those who influence others. Like I said, we decide what you eat for breakfast. We decide whether Pepsi will market a new brand of cola next year. We even decided who would stand for elections in the Russian Federation earlier this year."

"What about George Soros and Barak Obama. They are Communists and Progressives. What do you have to do with them?"

"They are willing puppets. Soros is simply a face and a check account. We made it so that he could crash the British Pound and earn his fortune. We are the ones that made sure that a Kenyan born bastard child could be the President of the United States. You just have to know what levers to pull and who's ear you need to bend. We are not a violent people, Mr. Kebert. We are simply persistent and persuasive."

"You know I'm getting all this on tape, sir. Aren't you afraid of being "outed"?"

"What you tape or broadcast is irrelevant, now. Things have progressed to the point where we don't have to work as hard to push things where we want them. It turns out that you can get a lot done in two generations. We've had six to work with. If we even allow your segment to air, it is doubtful that anyone will believe anything. Listen to how conspiratorially this all sounds. Nut cases from around the world will flock to you. Your credibility will decline in equal amounts. I have nothing to fear from you."

"You tell me that I eat corn flakes in the morning on your direction, that you decide elections, and that Vladimir Putin plays musical chairs at your whim and you tell me that you have nothing to fear from me?" The Moderator states with some exasperation.

"I. Have. Nothing. To. Fear. From. You." The man emphasizes each word with a gesture of his glass.

"I can have you killed. I can have your bank cut you off. I can ERASE you from the historical record. You can not touch me, nor can you influence anything. Me, and those like me, control the world and everything in it. We are setting up the dominos, we will deduce how and when to knock them over. Do you think that ObamaCare is about healthcare for Americans? You are a fool. Do you think there is any real difference between a Democrat and a Republican? Phah!"

"No, Mr. Kebert, we have nothing to fear from you or anyone else. Now, you go about your business and entertain the masses. We'll decide how best to direct mankind."

"You can't do that, sir. Someone will find out about this and stop you."

"Mr. Kebert. You are a simple, simple child. Neither you, nor anyone else you know can stop us." A flash of irritation crossed the Man in White's face as he set his glass down.

The man opened his mouth to say something else, but was instantly cut off. Over the Moderator's right ear, the sound of a bumble bee buzzed by. An instant later, he was splashed by something red. The man in White had been struck right between the eyes. His suit was covered in gore and he fell to the ground thrashing about.

It could not have been a bullet, because he would be dead and not thrashing. The red looked to be paint.

A moment later, something like a hockey puck landed on the glass table. Instantly, he was knocked to the ground by a shockwave and a blinding light.

He stood on wobbly legs and turned to run from the scene. He slammed into an unyielding wall of meat. A mass of muscle on a person so big his nose hit him in the chest.

The "flash-bang" grenade had shattered the table and threw everyone about. This man must have been a body guard for the group, though from the murderous look in his eyes, he was not the one who had thrown the grenade.

The group of men were beginning to come around, groaning. The big man had the Moderator by the throat and was about to kill him when he suddenly let him go.

Instead of killing him, he roared in pain and fell to his knees. Behind him, a slight, young brunette had him by the little finger of his left hand. The hand was behind his back and she was squeezing his pinky.

For some reason, this massive, towering wall of flesh was helpless and paralyzed in her simple, two-fingered grip.

With a twist and scream, he fell over, unconscious. The short, slender woman leapt up on his prone back and began to shoot the fallen Progressives in the crotch with a very high-powered paint gun. Only she was shooting glass marbles now instead of paint balls.

One by one the Progressives screamed in agony and began thrashing.

The Moderator could not believe what he was seeing. It was DeRoy!

She was wearing a yellow summer dress with a flower pattern on the shoulder and she also wore a floppy summer hat.

The hat flew off as she pulled something out of her small backpack.

A pole telescoped out from her hand and a Confederate battle flag quickly unfurled. With a look of distain at the Moderator, who was holding his crotch and praying, she let out a rebel yell and shot her marble gun into the air.

"You bleeping Goat loving fags, eat me!", she screamed at one of the Arab protest groups. She then shot into the ObamaCare crowd, downing half a dozen of their numbers.

"Obama is not a god and his wife is FAT!"

The roar from the Obama crowd drowned out the roar from the Arab crowd. If the Moderator was not so terrified, he would have wondered at that.

He saw the flag bob and weave as she ran off to the side of the park, in the direction of the Golden Gate bridge. He and Randal began to run with the crowd that surged after her in a rage.

It was a crazy, disjointed sprint toward the highway that lead to the Golden Gate bridge. The mob was in a frenzy. If they caught DeRoy he was sure that she would be torn to shreds.

The Moderator almost lost his balance when he tripped over three people who had fallen. He almost tripped again he ran into a pile of bodies that were thrashing in pain, holding their eyes and ears.

DeRoy must have been shooting behind her and dropping more of those flash-bang grenades. The front part of the mob was trying to slow down, wary now of this young, slight woman who seemed to run and negotiate obstacles like a mountain goat. The fastest in the mob could not catch up.

She leapt upon a truck that was heading to the North side of the bridge and began speeding out over the water. DeRoy was laughing and pointing at the crowd as it fumbled after her. A Koran wrapped in bacon was thrown from the speeding truck and onto the hood of a car that had been swamped with Arab protestors. The screaming and yelling reached a new pitch.

The crowd surged onto the highway, blocking traffic.

The Moderator seemed to be carried on by the crush of the crowd, his feet hardly on the ground.

Somehow, after what seemed like forever, the crowd began to spill out onto the North side of the bridge and into the Golden Gate Recreation Area.

The Moderator heard more shooting and bangs. The crowd broke up in the wider space available. He saw DeRoy's dress shoot into the forest as her little legs sprinted her up the forested hill.

As the mob surged after her, they fell into pit traps that DeRoy must have left behind. In them was a mixture of skunk oil and bacon grease. Pictures of a dead Osama bin Laden fluttered down from the trees, further enraging the mob.

The Moderator was able to get to the side of the event and work his way slowly towards the hill. He heard a ripping noise from his right and looked over as the crowd began to get cut down like wheat in a field. From somewhere in the forest, the rebel yell was joined by other rebel yells. Compressed air was sending thousands of marbles into the crowd, sweeping from right to left from at least two points within the tree line. Hundreds of people fell where they were hit, writhing in pain, those behind piling up over them. More still scrambling over the pile to get at their Southern tormentors.

The Moderator nearly stepped on a man who was camouflaged as he stepped into the woods. All he saw were the whites of a set of eyes looking back at him from a mossy bush. The man did nothing, other than to begin ignoring him.

He could hear DeRoy's voice in the trees, directing the defense of the tree line.

There were now bullets being fired into the tree line by gun wielding Arabs and Obama supporters. There were now over a thousand bodies, writhing in pain, knotting up the park. The crowds behind continued to try to surge forward but were meeting resistance from their own people, reluctant to step out into the opening.

A collective groan could be heard as the ripping noise opened up again, ripping lines deep into the crowd rather than across its front. More rebel yells could be heard as flash-bang grenades began to rain down into the crowd, fired from compressed air cannons somewhere in the woods.

It was too much for the crowd to bear. It began to break up, fleeing over those that tried to push in from the bridge. Others began to run back towards route 1 and into the waiting arms of crowd control police.

The Moderator was documenting the events as he had seen them as a shadow came over him and Randal.

DeRoy stood upon a tree stump looking at him.

The Moderator was gripped with fear.

"Those Som-bitches don't control Jack!"

She spit on the forehead of a hippy that had happened to crawl from the crowd.

"Ah still hate you." She said as she pointed at the Moderator.

With a swish of her skirt she was back into the tree line. Her Confederate posse vanishing into the woods with barely even a foot print to indicate they had ever been there.

The wind groaned through the swaying trees. Or was that the groan of a thousand puppets crying out in pain.

Have a great day, everyone.

Think about this for a while. There is a lot here to think about.

Live well.

And another passes

From the Stoa this day, I again will speak of and passages.

I am at that age now where I my grandparents, except for my 93 year old grandmother, have passed over. Twelve years ago, my uncle, a retired Colonel in the U.S. Army, died at the young age of 60 of stomach cancer.

It was a loss and he was one of my favorites. He looked and acted a lot like my Grandfather (his father). Tough, self-reliant, and unforgiving of stupid.

He fought that cancer valiantly, but in the end, the type he had almost always wins out. I drove across the midwest to attend his viewing and funeral. My aunt was unconsolable. He did not get to enjoy his retirement as long as most would. My aunt loved having him home and around. Many times during his career he was deployed where his family could not follow.

But this is not about him. This is about my aunt. After my uncle died, she retreated from the larger family. She had still not dealt with the passing of her parents (both well into their 90's) when by uncle was diagnosed.

The larger family, though not really close, did come together annually to play games and swap stories. This was an annual thing since my grandfather had died in 1979. That she cut herself off was not overly surprising. She was sick of the extended family trying to tell her how to live now that my uncle was gone.

She just needed her space. This space went on for years. To a few she would still send Christmas cards, but she would never visit anyone.

Over the years, my cousin would communicate with my mother. A few months ago, my mother confirmed what I had feared for a long time. My aunt had become a recluse, barely moving from her bed.

Full clinical depression. She neither wanted help nor accepted any help. Two of her three daughters had been living with her, trying to take care of her and the house.

For twelve years she wanted to rejoin my uncle. For twelve years, she allowed herself to fall apart due to neglect.

She passed this Sunday of many, many physical reasons. The fatal reason was in her heart and mind.

I see this as a waste of the precious time granted her by God. Life is to be lived, even if it is to be parked in front of a video game. Curling up in bed and waiting to die is giving up.

I'm sure that her parents would not have wanted her to live and pass this way. I'm certain that my uncle would not have wished for to live and pass that way. Twelve years that she could have spent with her daughters and friends. Twelve years that she could have influenced those who loved her.

Not even God knows exactly when or how one is to pass. We live in a determinant Universe, therefor the old Arab saying, "God will bring you to the place of your passing in the right time," is wrong.

I wonder how often my uncle had tried to intervene. How often his attempts went unnoticed. I can only imagine what their greeting was like when she passed. She has what she wants now. I'm certain too that it was not quite like the greeting she had hoped for.

Unless her passing provides a positive outcome with her daughters then I'm afraid her passing was a passing of her own choosing. There will be a reckoning for her. Learning and evolving.

Though I had not seen her since my uncles funeral I still feel the loss of her passing. I remember her voice, and her mannerisms. She smoked and laughed and left an impression on me while growing up. Lots of fond memories of my aunts and uncles talking, playing, and laughing around a table.

My grandparents are gone or too old to participate any longer. My aunts and uncles are now beginning to pass.

The generations turn. New matriarchs and patriarchs. My children are growing, though without the same fond memories of an extended family.

Enjoy the time you have. Enjoy your hobbies, no matter what they are. Enjoy that which give you meaning and happiness. Do what you need to do before passing on.

Live well.

Israel: You lose.

This morning upon the Stoa, I feel the need to speak out against Israeli lunacy.

Last night, I read an article, partially, that discussed a recent Mossad assessment of the aftermath of an Israeli pre-emptive strike on Iran's nuclear capability.

In a nutshell, it said that life in Tel Aviv would be "unlivable" after a strike. Unlivable...how? Rampant terror and death? You have that already. Nuclear fire? Not if you shoot straight. Conventional Iranian invasion? Not bloody likely.

So what would be unlivable about it?

What is the alternative of doing nothing?

In two words: nuclear holocaust.

You would think the Jews would know and understand this?

For all you Sci-Fi geeks out there: the Cylons are mankind's best buddies compared to how much Islam hates the Jews. Islam is willing to blow their children up and indoctrinate the innocent to die for a cause they can not understand just to kill a few Jews. The mothers are proud to do this.

Sailors in WWII gasped in horror as Kamikazes intentionally rammed their airplanes into our ships, knowing that the American juggernaut could not be stopped. We wondered at the people who could climb into a rocket powered bomb guided by a human mind.

In the 1970's version of Battlestar Galactica, to show how much the Cylons hated us, they rammed fuel filled fighters into the landing/launch bays of the Battlestars to prevent their use. Wow, those people really hated them, didn't they?

Today, you have Barney-like dinosaurs showing children how to wear bombing vests. You have children's cartoons talking about how fun it is to run into a crowd of Jews with a bomb about your chest. From a child's earliest cognitive ability, they are taught to hate the Jew and their Western sympathizers.

Do you see any lack of resolve on their part? They are willing to spend their youngest children in the endeavor to kill the Jew. Their women are willing to be nothing more than factories that produce human-guided bombs. They are willing to kill their future, in order to end yours.

Do you understand, Israel?

History tells us that you should not go to war with someone unless you are willing to risk more than the other guy. That you are willing to lose more than the other guy. That you are willing to sacrifice everything for victory.

If the Mossad is worried about how shoppers are going to go about their business then you are a doomed people. If the Mossad is worried about rockets from Lebanon and Syria, then Israel is doomed.

If they could attack and destroy you now, they would. If they had atomic weapons right now, they would use them.

Atomic weapons, you say? On Israel?

Oh, yes. Let's think about this for a few moments. If Iran was really, really, desperate to hurt Israel, they would hit them as soon as they had a single bomb. If they really wanted to destroy Israel, they would wait unit they had more.

Exploding a dozen atomic (not nuclear) devices all over Israel, assuming they could coordinate this, would devastate a valuable economic trading partner, even for the Arabs. Half of Israel is made up of non-Jewish Arabs, loyal to the government. They would die as well. Muslim killing Muslim. Some cities are close to the borders with Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan, not to mention Egypt (and the Gaza Strip).

Detonating devices in those sites will destroy parts of those nations as well. Then there is the fall-out. I'm certain that their bombs are not as clean as ours. We have had 70 years to develop ours to the height of "green". Fallout would drop to the East of Israel due to the wind currents. Yes, the fallout would drop all over them.

Do they care? No. Do they care that hundreds of thousands of Islam-practicing Arabs would die in Israel? No. Do they care that they will destroy portions of their own nations in these blasts? No. Do they care about the fallout that will blanket the entire Middle-East? No.

Why should they care. They are already willing to strap a bomb to their innocent children just to strike at the Jew.

Don't be so surprised.

Get a clue Israel.

Live well.

Roman Engineering

From upon the Stoa this day, I simply wish to ponder man in two different Eras.

Over two thousand years ago, the Romans dominated the world through road and bridge building as much as they did their armies. If needed, messages could travel from Britannia to the military outposts in Iraq in a matter of weeks. There was even a military newspaper that the Roman equivalent of the Pentagon put out. This allowed Roman citizens and soldiers to keep up on Imperial events.

In the beginning, the roads were created in the Republic by the wealthy in the various districts. It was considered an honor and a duty to create these roads. Merchants and traders would then come through the town with money that can be spent and taxed.

Once built, the roads were maintained by the rich and prosperous, and even expanded upon. During the Empire, the roads were funded through taxation and were always kept in perfect condition for the use of the Army and the State.

It was through those roads that peace was maintained and merchants kept safe.

In the end, though, it was also those roads that allowed enemies quick access to the interior of the Empire when the army was no longer sufficient to keep them away.

Two thousand years later, one can still walk those old, Roman roads. In some cases, their bridges still support road traffic to this day. In some very old Italian cities, Roman bridges and roads have even survived earthquakes and floods.

This brings me to my musing of the day. If the Romans could build a road to last two hundred centuries, why can we not build a road, with all of our technology, that can last more than a few years.

The Romans had ice and summers and the freeze thaw cycle, yet their roads are still serviceable.

Here, in 2012, with probes on other planets and and probes traveling between the stars, we are unable to build roads that surpass the technology of two hundred centuries ago.

Think on why that may be. We'll ponder this again later.
